Interrail Discord Community: Share Routes & Meet Travellers

Two backpackers at a railway station, illustrating travel companionship.

Have an Interrail route in mind, but nobody to discuss it with? Join Interrail | Backpack Europe, our Discord community for sharing itinerary ideas, asking travel questions and looking for people planning a similar trip. Bring a rough plan or one specific question; you do not need a perfectly organised itinerary to start a conversation.

Perhaps you have saved Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin and Prague but cannot decide how many nights each needs. Or you understand the pass but are unsure which part of a journey to reserve first. A conversation with other travellers can help you see what to investigate next, before you commit to bookings.

Bring your route. Start a conversation.

The server is called Interrail | Backpack Europe. English is the common language, so travellers from different countries can follow the discussion.

How to join the Interrail Discord community

Open the community invitation and check that it names Interrail | Backpack Europe. Sign in to Discord or follow its account setup if you have not used it before. Accept the invitation through Discord, then read start-here and any current guidance before posting.

  1. Start with the welcome and start-here channels. Learn how the server is organised and follow the instructions shown there.
  2. Choose a channel for your purpose. An itinerary check and a search for travel companions belong in different conversations.
  3. Write a short post in English. Include enough context for somebody to understand your plan without asking five basic follow-up questions.

You can use Discord’s app or browser interface. If a link opens in an unexpected place, Discord’s joining-a-server guide explains how to paste an invitation into the “Join a Server” option. You do not need to post immediately: read a little, then introduce your question when you are ready.

Which channel should you use?

The useful starting point is what you want to do, rather than which destination is most popular. Keep the channel names below as they appear in Discord.

Share an Interrail route people can actually comment on

“Is my route good?” is difficult to answer without knowing the duration, the season or how fast you want to move. A much more useful post explains your stops, nights and main uncertainty. Say whether you prefer longer stays or are comfortable changing accommodation frequently.

  • Trip length and approximate dates: two weeks in May gives different context from a month in winter.
  • Arrival and departure: include the first and last destination, and whether your travel from home is inside that time.
  • Stops and nights: a list such as Paris 4 → Amsterdam 3 → Berlin 3 → Prague 3 is clearer than a map full of pins.
  • Your priorities: food, neighbourhoods, nature, museums, nightlife or a mixture; mention anything that affects the pace.
  • One decision you need help with: too many moves, a long transfer, the balance between two cities or a possible extra stop.

For example, our two-week Paris–Amsterdam–Berlin–Prague route has four bases and 13 nights. You could use that structure as a starting point, then ask which stay you would change for your interests. It is a suggested route, not something every traveller has to follow.

Community comments are ideas to assess, not confirmed rail connections or bookings. If someone suggests a different train, check the actual date, operator, change time and any required reservation before rebuilding your trip around it.

Ask a question that is small enough to answer

Use travel-questions when you need help with a specific step rather than a full itinerary review. Instead of “How does Interrail work?”, explain the part you have reached: choosing tickets, arranging a reservation or finding a connection.

A useful question — fictional example

“I’m planning Paris to Amsterdam in May. I haven’t chosen a departure yet. Should I check pass-holder reservation availability before booking accommodation? I’ve read the reservation guide, but I’m unsure about the order.”

This gives people a decision to discuss without pretending you already have a booking. When exact dates matter, include them. If you share a screenshot of a search result, remove booking references and personal details first. Our seat reservation guide and guide to tickets not yet on sale can help you work out which question to ask next.

Looking for Interrail travel buddies?

You do not have to find somebody for the whole trip. In find-travel-buddies, say whether you want a companion for a full route, a few overlapping days or just a shared visit in one city. That makes it easier to spot a practical match.

Include approximate dates, destinations and your preferred pace. It is useful to explain whether you like early starts, longer city stays, quiet evenings or social plans. Keep the introduction brief and discuss more personal details only when you are comfortable.

Before making shared plans, talk through accommodation preferences, spending expectations and how independently you each want to travel. Start any first meeting in a public place. Do not post passport images, payment details, your live location or booking codes. Finding someone with overlapping dates does not guarantee compatibility, and the community does not verify a stranger on your behalf.

A first-post template you can adapt

Copy the structure, replace the details and post in the channel that fits. This is a fictional example, not a message or testimonial from a community member.

For rate-my-route

Hi! I’m planning:14 days in May, arriving in Paris and leaving from Prague. Travel from home is extra.

My draft route: Paris 4 nights → Amsterdam 3 → Berlin 3 → Prague 3.

My interests: neighbourhoods, food and a few main sights, with time to explore without rushing.

My question: does the balance of nights make sense, or would you move a night between these cities?

You can change the same format for a travel-buddy post: keep the dates and route, then explain which part you would like to share. A clear first message is more useful than tagging everyone or repeating the same request in several channels.

The community and a personalised itinerary are different things

The Discord is a place for conversations between travellers: sharing ideas, asking questions and comparing experiences. Participation and replies depend on who is available; it is not a guaranteed itinerary review, booking service or urgent travel help desk.

If you want a personalised itinerary PDF and matching map prepared around your preferences, that is the separate Rail Trip Planner planning service. The about-and-example channel introduces the service and example. Rail Trip Planner does not book trains, accommodation or activities for you. You can explore the community without treating every discussion as a request for a paid plan.

A few questions before you join

Is this an official Interrail server?

No. Interrail | Backpack Europe is an independent community associated with Rail Trip Planner, not an official Interrail or railway customer-service channel. For a purchase or booking issue, contact the relevant provider.

What language should I use?

English is the common language. Keep your message clear and simple; the aim is for travellers from different countries to understand the same conversation.

Can I join if I am still choosing my route or travelling solo?

Yes. You can start with a rough idea and a focused question. Travelling solo does not mean you need to find a companion; you can use the community just to discuss your planning.

Will somebody plan or fix my trip immediately?

There is no guaranteed response time or promise of a complete plan. Check important travel details with the operator and use official support for urgent problems involving your booking.

What would you like to ask first?

Bring your draft route, your next planning question or the dates you would like to share with another traveller. Start with the channel that fits.
